Even Twitter flagged the tweet for “glorifying violence” (via toofab)
As the protests in Minneapolis erupted into violence for the third night in a row after the public death of a black man while in the custody of white police officers, Trump clearly grew frustrated with the ongoing situation in Minnesota.
....These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!As you might predict, he blamed the"very weak Radical Left" in his two-part tweet on the issue Thursday night, as well as a"lack of leadership" from Minneapolois' Democratic mayor Jacob Frey.
He threatened to bring in the National Guard, and followed it up by saying that rioters are"dishonoring the memory of George Floyd" -- but he didn't use the word"rioters." "These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won't let that happen" is what he wrote [emphasis his], and even concluded this tweet with the phrase,"When the looting starts, the shooting starts."
