Relations between Trump and Johnson have always seemed close, with the president calling the prime minister a 'British Trump' and even Democratic nominee Joe Biden saying that Johnson was a Trump 'clone.'
The U.K. and the U.S. are still in trade negotiations for a deal following Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. The U.K. has been pushing for a quick deal but it now looks likely that negotiations will only conclude after the U.S. election on November 3.
"It's not a suggestion, it's not a threat, it's a statement and a reality," Democratic congressman Brendan Boyle has said.
