Residents say parents 'can't be bothered'
Double yellow lines have been proposed for a Stapleford street that residents say has been blighted by dangerous parking. People living in and around Blake Street said buses were sometimes unable to pass because of parents' parking near Fairfield Spencer Academy, based in Toton Lane.
The 63-year-old military nurse continued: "A few years ago, two cars smashed into each other and the whole area was all shut. We just heard this massive, big, bang."David Turner, a 74-year-old retired soldier, said: "They can't be bothered. They park all the way up Silsley Avenue, it's everyday. I was saying to my wife the other day, there's a large blind spot between those two roads and cars parked round the bend just add to the problem. it's very dangerous.
A consultation was carried out on plans for double yellow lines around the junction connecting the street, and for single yellow lines along the north-west side of Blake Road. "We have received complaints regarding inconsiderate parking, particularly at school times, along Blake Road at Stapleford," an advert for the proposals on its website reads.
