This frontcourt is long and young and athletic, all three of them 6-10 or 6-11 of lean, explosive muscle. They can shoot 3-pointers. They can block shots. If you’re sentimental, though, take a picture. Nothing lasts forever.Jalen Smith, the outlier who wouldn't leave The Pacers are not. They recognized Smith had more to offer, gave him the chance to showcase it, and after the season spent time with him, recruiting him, telling him how they would develop him if he’d play for pennies on the dollar.

Last season he averaged 12.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg and 2.8 blocks, shooting 33.3% on 3-pointers. His PER was 17.4, his production per 36 minutes 15.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg and 3.4 blocks. He did it with no help from Haliburton, who arrived in February, a month after Turner had been shut down for the season with a foot injury.
