More than 100 migrants who were travelling on the boat have been rescued from the water and transferred to the city of Kalamata. No one on the fishing boat was wearing a life jacket.Survivors say there could have been as many as 750 passengers on board, but the exact figure is unclear.“We fear that the number of dead will rise significantly,” a spokesperson for Peloponnese prefect Panagiotis Nikas said.
The International Organisation for Migration tweeted earlier on Wednesday that it believed that there were “up to 400 people” onboard.
