A toddler who wandered out of a laundromat was killed in a hit-and-run in Hartford on Monday night and police said they found the vehicle responsible in New Haven on Tuesday morning and took one person into custody.
after the 19-month-old girl darted out of the laundromat and into the street, where she was hit by a car, police said. According to police, the little girl was found unresponsive in the road. She was taken to Connecticut Children's and later died.Authorities said the evading vehicle is a 2013 black BMW 328xi with a Connecticut license plate of BD98328. The vehicle was not reported stolen, police added.New Haven police said they detained one person who was in the driver's seat of the car, but they could not say that the person was the driver who was involved in the hit-and-run.
"Our thoughts are with this baby's family during this extremely difficult and emotional time. We can confirm the Department did receive a report yesterday. We are working with the Hartford PD to investigate this tragic incident along with offering trauma informed supports to the family," Peter Yazbak, of the state Department of Children & Families, said in a statement.
