The storm will last through late Thursday and another system is likely to arrive early next week as the jet stream continues to target West Coast.
The light rain currently falling across San Diego County will turn heavy early Thursday and be accompanied by powerful winds at the coast and waves that could ultimately reach the 10-foot to 16-foot range in South County, according to the National Weather Service.
The northern jet stream has dropped south and is funneling storms into California. Many of the storms, including the one coming Thursday, are drawing plumes of moisture from the sub-tropics. These atmospheric rivers are helping to replenish the state’s reservoirs.Forecasters say the next strong storm pulse will reach San Diego County before dawn on Thursday. The heaviest rain will fall in the northwest corner of the county, which is expected to get from .50 inches to 1 inch of rain.
Forecasters said that 35 mph winds could sweep east across Interstate 5 and possibly parts of Interstate 805
