“Until I played pro ball in Europe (for 12 years), the only coaches I ever played for were my father and Keith Dambrot,” said Joyce III. “To me, this is like going back to the family.”
Dru Joyce III was 12 years old, not even five feet tall. He was with his father, Dru Joyce II. His friends were Willie McGee and Sian Cotton.They showed up at the Akron Jewish Community center on Sunday evenings in the late 1990s. Keith Dambrot was running basketball clinics for young players. At that point in his life, Dambrot was nearing the end of a four-year exile after being fired as head coach of Central Michigan University.
“I’m loyal to my guys,” said Dambrot. “But Dru is very good.
