December 13, 2022 at 6:52 p.m.TORONTO — The pregame warmup cost them one forward, Max Jones, and a mere 11 seconds into the game, the Ducks lost another forward when Adam Henrique took a puck in the face and had to leave for repairs, but he would return for the start of the second period.
Naturally, there was more to come in Toronto’s 7-0 win against the Ducks on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena. Of course, there had to be with this being a messy game on a messy trip in a messed-up season. The Ducks are 1-7-2 in their last 10 games and have been outscored 10-0 in the first two games of this trip.
With the Ducks trailing 2-0, starting goaltender John Gibson left the game at 10:48 and rookie Lukas Dostal entered the game in relief. It appeared as though Gibson had been in discomfort after making a save earlier in the game but had stayed in until midway through the second. The Leafs promptly converted on their first shot on Dostal – defenseman TJ Brodie scored his first goal since last season and the floodgates opened.Maple Leafs forward Alexander Kerfoot scored twice – matching his season output, defenseman Connor Timmins added three assists and Mitch Marner extended his team-record point streak to 23 games.
Toronto goaltender Ilya Samsonov, who was coming off a 5-0 shutout against the Kings on Thursday, recorded his second shutout of the season and eighth of his career. He faced 29 shots.
