If you don't update your log book, you'll have to pay road tax on a car that you aren't using and will also have to pay for your new car too. In a tweet, the DVLA said: "When you sell a car, tell DVLA online to make sure you get your tax refund quickly. It's really easy to do". You must tell the DVLA you've sold the vehicle and give them the full name and address of the buyer, which will be done by completing the V5C form and sending it off. If you do not do this, any vehicle tax refund you're owed might be affected.
