Independent Age has released a series of videos designed to help older people and their families with the claims process
A charity is calling on older individuals with disabilities or long-term health conditions to check if they qualify for Attendance Allowance. This non-means-tested, tax-free benefit could provide recipients with either £72.65 or £108.55 weekly, depending on the level of care needed.
In the 'Applying for Attendance Allowance' video, McSweeney says: "The Attendance Allowance form is long and you might feel like you're repeating yourself because there's lots of questions. It can also take an awful long time to fill in, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time and get yourself comfortable before you fill it in."
Independent Age advises: "The decision maker will use your claim form to work out whether you qualify for Attendance Allowance, so it's important to give as much detail as possible."According to the most recent statistics from the DWP, as of November 2023, a total of 1,571,519 individuals are claiming Attendance Allowance throughout Great Britain, which includes 140,716 residents in Scotland.
You should also make a claim if you require help or supervision throughout the day or night and have:.a sensory condition - if you are deaf or visually impaired.You could be eligible for £72.65 if you need help during the day or at night or £108.55 if you need help both during the day and at night, or if you are terminally ill. The benefit is paid every four weeks, meaning you could receive either £290.60 or £434.20 each pay period.
