Changes are on the horizon for claimants of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessments (WCA)
Changes are on the horizon for claimants of Personal Independence Payment and Work Capability Assessments in England, Wales and Northern Ireland from September 7. However, these changes will not impact those residing in Scotland who are currently receiving PIP, as they are set to transition from the Department for Work and Pensions to Adult Disability Payment by the end of next year.
Contracts for Functional Assessment Services are set to replace both PIP and Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit contracts, as well as contracts to carry out WCAs for Employment and Support Allowance and Universal Credit. This means that the same company will conduct both types of assessment in any given regional area.
A recent Freedom of Information request revealed that between January and June this year, only 1,192 of PIP assessments were audio-recorded by Capita. Similarly, the DWP confirmed that IAS audio-recorded just 366 PIP assessments during the same period.
