The cost-of-living crisis means a chunk of the average Briton's monthly income is disappearing on essential items than before, according to Derby Telegraph. Any possible financial help is a godsend for most. For people of State Pension age, that can come in the form of payments from the Government.
September 18: Winter Fuel Payment 2023/24 The DWP has now published the new guidance for this year's Winter Fuel Payment. Most people will not need to make a claim, especially if you got the payment last year, but new claims can be made by post from September 18 and over the phone from October 4 - full details on payment breakdowns can be found here.
The qualifying week for this year is 18-24 September. You need to have lived in the UK on at least one day during the qualifying week to be eligible.September 20: August CPI inflation rate This is one of those key dates for your diary as it forms part of the Triple Lock. It's important to note the August figure will not impact the April uprating for the State Pension, but it is a handy one for measuring which one is the highest between CPI and earnings growth.
This is because Pension Credit is a retrospective benefit that can be backdated by up to three months. However, it does mean that a successful new claimant will receive the cost of living money after the payment window closes, but they will get it - find out more here. The annual State Pension and benefits uprating will be confirmed by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt during his Autumn Statement on November 22, 2023.
