The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) PIP components are for people who need help with either daily living or getting around outside of the home
Claimants of Personal Independence Payment have been given insight into the "scoring system" used to assess new claims. The Department for Work and Pensions provides a Daily Living Component for individuals who require assistance with various activities such as eating, drinking, preparing food, personal hygiene, dressing, managing medication, handling finances, and social interaction.
The Mobility Component is aimed at those who need support with navigation or physical movement, including leaving the house. The DWP assesses the level of difficulty faced in daily living and mobility tasks, considering safety, time taken, frequency of impact due to condition, and whether help is needed from another person or special equipment, reports Birmingham Live.
Points are allocated for each task, with a maximum of 8 points for food preparation, 10 for taking medication, 8 for managing therapy or monitoring a health condition, and 8 for washing and bathing. Similarly, managing toilet needs or incontinence, dressing and undressing, communicating verbally, and reading and understanding symbols and words can each score up to 8 points, with verbal communication having a higher potential score of 12, according to the latest DWP guidance.
Interacting with others face-to-face carries a maximum score of 8 while making budgeting decisions carries a maximum score of 6. Depending on your award level, you will receive the following weekly amounts from April 8:
