With Ellwanger at the 110 pitch count limit, Dygert, a huge reason why the Mustangs were at Dell Diamond in the University Interscholastic League Class 5A tournament in the first place, took off the shin guards, chest protector, dispatched his catcher’s glove and headed to the hill. The center of it all on a hot Central Texas evening.
“It was good to be able to see what the atmosphere was probably going to be like,” Dygert said. “I know that now. I think that gives me an advantage. To see the mound was good.” “Caylon doesn’t care and he’s willing to do whatever it takes and anytime, no excuses. Just to go out there, throw three pitches and shut it down is a really big deal. That’s just who he is.”
Dygert has proudly represented Magnolia West since moving to the district in junior high. His step-father is Magnolia West principal Jason Morley and it was a dream to be a Mustang for Dygert.
