Councilmember Charles Barron and his office hosted a closeout for Women’s Herstory Month to channel the sentiments of the proverb by honoring seven Black women who have advanced the education of many youths across various sectors of expression from the arts to sustainability.
It was a night to remember. Every sister who attended was greeted at the door with a carnation of their choosing as a subtle nod to providing each woman “their flowers.” Each honoree received a bouquet of flowers and a framed picture of Shirley Chisholm speaking to children as a symbolic gesture to honor them for their works, both seen and unseen.
