Duchess Meghan's children's book "The Bench" was offered on eBay with a personal dedication to Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank. The book, which was originally sold for 15.30 euros, was priced at 24,000 euros - a scandal that raises questions about privacy and the sale of personal gifts within the royal family.
Family photos are priceless, personal letters are usually kept, and a gift with a loving inscription? That should go into a memory box, not on a sales platform.
Meghans signiertes Kinderbuch auf eBay
So it's all the more surprising what has now appeared on eBay: a copy of Duchess Meghan's (45) children's book "The Bench", apparently personally signed for Princess Eugenie (36) and her husband Jack Brooksbank (40). The couple has three children together. It was offered for a whopping 24,000 euros! This offer raises questions: For years, Eugenie was considered one of the most important allies of the Sussexes within the royal family.
After the couple's move to the USA, she even lived in the couple's Windsor residence, Frogmore Cottage. The inscription makes the book, which was offered at 15.30 euros at the time, something special. According to the offer, Meghan wrote the message in 2021. In her dedication, she affectionately addresses Eugenie as "Eug", a nickname used by family and close friends.
Meghan und Eugenie als enge Freundinnen
At the time, they seemed like best friends: Duchess Meghan (then 35) and Princess Eugenie (then 26) had a great time celebrating Halloween together in 2016. Later, they remained close.
"To Eug & Jack, celebrating the special bond between father and son," the Duchess is said to have written. She composed the poem at Frogmore Cottage and hopes Eugenie will experience the same love there with her boys as she did.
"With love, Meghan. " After Meghan and Harry emigrated to the USA in 2020, Eugenie and her husband moved into Frogmore Cottage. Meghan had particularly loving words for Princess Eugenie (36) and Jack Brooksbank (40). But they apparently didn't want to keep the children's book.
The Bench und sein überraschender Verkauf
"The Bench" was released in June 2021 and was Meghan's first children's book. With only 3,212 copies sold in the first week, it didn't make it into the British top 50. The story is said to have originated from a poem she wrote for Harry on Father's Day. The reading, which was listed as "slightly scratched", was now put up for sale by a London dealer.
At least ten percent of the 24,000 euros was meant to go to disadvantaged children in Thailand. But after a week, the offer abruptly disappeared. When asked by the "Daily Mail", the dealer did not reveal how the special item came into his possession.
