Leeds United saw four players recognised at the 2024 EFL Awards in an event which have just given the side a shot in the arm right when they need it
Traipsing down to London less than 36 hours after a painful defeat in the title race for individual awards may not have been at the top of Leeds United players’ to-do list. However, as galling as it may have felt starting that long drive south, by Monday morning it may have become a crucial boost in this final push.
Leeds are one such team with several players and a manager good enough to both be nominated and have a lot riding on the final three weeks of the season. When the last result has been a poor one, you can understand if all the players want to do is stay at home and keep their heads down. Daniel Farke was no doubt tipped off he would not be beating Kieran McKenna to the Manager of the Season award and did stay at home, but the Whites were still well-represented. Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Ethan Ampadu were suited and booted to pick up their prizes, as they set aside Saturday’s anguish.
Farke and his backroom staff have a long week to reset the agenda and refocus minds that were capable of a 15-match, three-month unbeaten run. And yet external, surprise acclaim like this could be huge for confidence on the field.
