El Cajon man who died in tree-trimming accident was on FaceTime when hit by part of tree [Breaking]
incident last week was on FaceTime with a family member when the accident occurred, the county Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Gary Zing, 59, had told family members he was going to cut down a tree in the backyard of his home on Altozano Drive, east of state Route 125. Later in the morning, he was on the video-chat phone app with a family member as he was cutting branches when part of the eucalyptus tree fell on him, the county Medical Examiner’s Office and Heartland Fire officials said.
Zing was observed “to go down the hill from the tree” when he was struck by part of the tree, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. “The decedent did not emerge from under the tree and 911 was called.”
