Elden Ring's character customization is impressive, but it won't let us make the character we truly want to become Elden Lord - a Living Jar.
Elden Ring's Living Jars comprise some of the best enemies and NPCs in the game, but they would be even better as a playable class. FromSoftware's sprawling open-world RPG introduces players to a colorful variety of humanoid and humanoid-adjacent races: the lumbering trolls, the scorned Omen, the doomed Albinaurics. Each race comes with its own taxonomy and history. However, none of these races are available to the player character - not even the much-beloved race of Living Jars.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY With so much richly detailed Jar lore, it's no surprise that many want to play as Jars themselves. Most Jars live in the aptly named Jarburg, a charming hillside hamlet where wildflowers grow abundantly. However, there are many itinerant Jar warriors like Iron Fist Alexander, Elden Ring's affable knight quest-giver and likely the first Jar players will meet. Other Jars aren't so friendly, and will attack on sight.
The Endless Potential Of Playable Living Jars In Elden Ring Playable Living Jars would have interesting repercussions on both combat and roleplaying. Enemy Jars use a unique spinning attack, which player Jars could use to cut down enemy swarms. The attack requires a lengthy windup that leaves jars vulnerable, so players would have to position themselves strategically. Slash damage would likely glance off Jar players’ hard exteriors, while strike damage would shatter them into pieces.
Still, the story of The Lands Between is not over. Since the release of Elden Ring's free multiplayer Colosseum update, players are once again abuzz with speculation about future DLC. With so little to go off of, there's no reason not to hope for playable Living Jars in a future update. There are so many questions left unanswered about Elden Ring's many non-human races, and making them playable with their own quest lines would be a worthy way to explore them.
