The Television Academy is revealing nominations today beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT/11:30 a.m. ET for the 72ndin a ceremony that’s going virtual for the first time due to safety concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic. Leslie Jones is hosting the announcement event, with Laverne Cox, Josh Gad and Tatiana Maslany doing the honors of presenting nominations in the primetime categories. They will be joined by Television Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma.
The TV Academy said there were a record 767 different programs in the running for Emmys in more than 100 categories this season, with overall submissions increasing 15% over the previous competition year. After today’s noms are revealed, the members of the TV Academy will begin the process of launching final-round voting which begins August 21 and runs through August 31, leading into the Creative Arts ceremony which will be in some virtual form this year.Finally, winners of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards will be unveiled September 20 live an ABC in a ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
