Root says the only way to revive the competitiveness of England’s ODI cricket team is to increase the number of games they play every yearhas questioned the future of 50-over cricket and has suggested a radical solution for getting more domestic one-day cricket into top players – scrapping the T20 Blast.
Gus Atkinson played just two 50-over matches in county cricket before making his ODI debut last month. Harry Brook has only ever played 15 for Yorkshire.“That being said, I don’t think we’ve got the wrong squad of players here. I just don’t think we’ve performed. Root rightly cites these issues and wonders whether the 50-over format is even relevant any more for young players and fans.
