An FA spokesperson stressed that the Lionesses followed the "normal protocol" also adhered to by the England men's team - and that it would have been the same even if they had won the World Cup.

FA Chiefs are also understood to have asked Heathrow staff to let fans know that players would not be going through arrivals, to try to avoid disappointment.Fans made homemade signs for their favourite stars
