, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas is asking residents to reduce their electric use if possible to prevent the demand of energy overtaking supply.
The Texas power grid, which is independent of other national power grids, is managed by ERCOT. It gives power to 26 million Texans and represents about 90 percent of the state’s electric load. While ERCOT is not yet in emergency operations, the council issued a Voluntary Conservation Notice for today from 4 to 8 p.m. due to the heat and forecasted demand. The notice asks Texans to reduce their electric use if possible.
