Eren's turn to evil was inevitable.
While the common belief among the Attack on Titan fan base is that Eren Yeager's turn to villain in the finale of the series was too forced or unjustified for the character, this is not necessarily the truth. Eren is actually portrayed in the series as a victim of tragic circumstances over which he has no control, so his final decisions are almost inevitable.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Eren is not even 10 years old before he kills his first person when he saves Mikasa from kidnappers. Soon after that, Titans attack, and his mother is eaten in front of Eren's eyes by a Titan - who he later learns was his father's first wife in Marley. This leads Eren to hate Titans and vow to exterminate them. However, his father later injects him with the Titan serum which forces Eren to eat him .
Eren Yeager's Turn To Villain Is The Natural Consequence Of His Circumstances These terrible circumstances would leave even the toughest person gutted, but Eren is far from a mentally resilient person. In fact, at least in his younger days, he tended to rely on others, like Mikasa, to help him push through.
In this view, everyone was either a predator or a victim and in such an environment Eren picked the most natural option, to protect his people in an absolute version of the "survival of the fittest" rule. Nevertheless, Eren still seemed a little troubled with his choice up to a certain point, but by then there was no one else who could truly understand his particular situation. Eren seems to seek Mikasa advice in a roundabout way when he asked her "what he meant to her".
Despite the dire consequences of his actions, Eren never felt any remorse or guilt, remaining firm in the belief that this was what needed to be done, and only he had the means of doing it.
