The European Union announced that new sanctions would be imposed on many more top Russian officials and oligarchs and on exports on technology used for the navy, along with new sanctions on Belarus's banks.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday that the 27 member states agreed to impose new restrictions on Russia and Belarus in light of Russian President Vladimir Putin's continued invasion of Ukraine, according to Reuters.
The member states agreed to impose sanctions on 160 key Russian officials and oligarchs, ban exports of maritime technology to Russia, and sanction the Belarus banking division.Von der Leyen said in the statement that the new sanctions for Russia meant"restrictions on the export of maritime navigation and radio communication technology" and adding Russia's"Maritime Register of Shipping" to a list of businesses that will be subject to financial limitations.
