EU foreign ministers meeting urges solidarity, de-escalation and dialogue over raised tensions between Turkey and Greece in Eastern Mediterranean

“Three words reflect the outcome of the discussion: solidarity, de-escalation, and dialogue,” a statement said following the video conference meeting. Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said that the bloc is in solidarity with Greece and GCA.Eastern Med: Full solidarity w/ Greece&Cyprus; calling Turkey for immediate deescalation and reengaging in dialogue.
The agreement came only a day after Ankara said it would postpone its oil and gas exploration as a goodwill gesture. Turkey has consistently opposed Greece's efforts to declare an exclusive economic zone based on small islands near Turkish shores, violating the interests of Turkey, the country with the longest coastline in the Mediterranean.Greece, a NATO and EU member, is on high alert over Ankara's mission where frigates from Turkey and Greece were involved in a mild collision in the region.
