Euclid native Kenny Gilbert, who owns Silkie’s Chicken & Champagne Bar just outside of Jacksonville, Fla., has worked at top restaurants in the United States, Japan, Spain, France and the Caribbean.
grew up in Euclid during the 1970s and ‘80s and started cooking before he was 10 years old. When he had childhood sleepovers, he’d awaken early to cook breakfast for friends. At 11, he scratch-cooked an entire Thanksgiving dinner – from turkey to pumpkin pies – without help. As a high school athlete, he cooked for his swim team.
Gilbert took his childhood love of things culinary and went to the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute in Pittsburgh. He started his career with Ritz-Carlton and has worked at top restaurants in the United States, Japan, Spain, France and the Caribbean. He has cooked at the James Beard House. He gained national visibility for his appearance on Bravo’s Emmy award-winning “Top Chef” season seven.
