Adam Sandler has starred in several sports movies, whether it's basketball, football, or a golf/hockey hybrid, but they massively vary in quality.
Adam Sandler has built an illustrious career with outrageous comedies, but a couple of his very best movies are centered around sports, including a surprisingly dramatic performance in Hustle. After becoming a successful stand-up comedian and a regular on Saturday Night Live, Sandler quickly proved himself as a leading man in mid-budget comedies.
Along with updating the film for a modern audience with social commentary, the comedy made a huge $191 million worldwide . Unfortunately, while it was a success when it was theatrically released, it isn't talked about half as much as other Sandler-led movies of the time. And when it comes to the sport itself, the idea that inmates and COs would be allowed to compete with each other for entertainment is completely unrealistic.
The movie's depiction of American football is ridiculous, as the Waterboy turns into the Hulk of the football team, sending opponents tens of yards across the field. But regardless of the realism, many considered The Waterboy one of the 90s' funniest comedies.
