A former Chicago police officer is facing felony charges after a watchdog investigation alleged he repeatedly lied about his vehicle in order to get out of parking tickets.Jeffrey Kriv, 56, has been charged with four felony counts of perjury and five felony counts of forgery, according to the Chicago Office of Inspector General .

According to an investigation launched by the OIG, Kriv successfully disputed numerous parking tickets and moving violations stemming from his own personal vehicles by providing fraudulent documents and making false statements while under oath during in-person hearings before the city’s Department of Administrative Hearings.

The OIG’s office alleged this occurred multiple times between 2009 and 2022, while Kriv was employed as a Chicago Police Department officer. He retired from the CPD earlier this month. Department records show he earned $197,371 in total pay in 2021 and $142,603 in 2020., Cook County prosecutors alleged in court that Kriv contested 44 tickets during that time by repeatedly claiming any tickets or citations issued to his vehicle occurred after his girlfriend had stolen it.

“The truthfulness and credibility of police officers is foundational to the fair administration of justice, and to CPD’s effectiveness as a law enforcement agency,” Inspector General Deborah Witzburg said in a statement. “We are grateful to CPD and to the State’s Attorney’s Office for their partnership in this investigation.”Jared Rutecki contributed to this report.
