Connor Wickham delivers special FA Cup moment as he scores from halfway line
And the goalkeeper couldn’t keep Wickham’s impressive effort out
The Gloucestershire outfit were 1-0 up at seventh tier South Shields – managed by former Sunderland man Kevin Phillips – and looked to be going through to the next round thanks to a first half effort from Wickham. But that didn’t stop the former Crystal Palace and Sunderland forward grasping the chance to sprinkle a bit more FA Cup magic over the tie as it went into stoppage time.After receiving the ball within his own half, the former Black Cats star picked his head up and spotted South Shields goalkeeper Myles Boney off his line.
Moving just over the halfway line, Wickham chose the right moment and sent the ball flying towards his opponent’s goal. Despite Boney not being too far off his line, Wickham’s effort got the better of him, and his jumping effort to palm it away wasn’t enough to stop it sailing over his head and into the top corner.
