Anybody who’s eligible for this year’s Christmas Bonus should keep an eye on their bank account. The one-off, annual payment will start being paid from next week – week beginning 2 December. And those who qualify for the £10 payment should see it in their bank account before Christmas Day.
The Christmas Bonus is a tax-free payment designed to help families with extra costs over the festive season. It’s come under fire in recent years as it hasn’t risen since it was first introduced in 1972. Payments will be made automatically to those who qualify.
The Department for Work and Pensions will make the payment. And it will show on your bank account with the code 'DWP XB’. Who is eligible for the Christmas Bonus? The Christmas Bonus will be paid to anyone who lives or is 'ordinarily resident' in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Gibraltar during the first week of December.
But you must also receive at least one of the following qualifying benefits. Universal Credit on its own is not included.What should I do if I don’t get my payment? If you think you should get the Christmas Bonus but haven’t received it yet, wait until the end of December. If you still haven't received it by 1 January, contact the Jobcentre Plus office that deals with your payments or the Pension Service.
