A penumbral lunar eclipse will take place as the Worm Moon quietly slips into Earth's outer shadow - but it's possible not everyone will be able to see it
A lunar eclipse is due to take place on Monday, but not everyone might be able to see it. The Worm Moon will move into Earth's outer shadow, creating a penumbral lunar eclipse that will be visible in Japan, the eastern half of Australia, the Americas, the western half of Africa, western Europe, and parts of Antarctica between March 24-25.In the UK, the Moon will disappear below the horizon before the maximum eclipse at 7.12am on Monday, March 25.
The lunar eclipse on Monday marks the start of this season. Astronomers say it will lead up to a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, reports the Mirror. Astrology site EarthSky explains: "A penumbral lunar eclipse is the most subtle kind of lunar eclipse, one that most people won't even notice. The moon's shadow won't be detected until the disk of the moon is immersed in about 2/3 of the penumbral shadow. Of course, this depends on the atmospheric conditions and a person's visual acuity."
