ForbesUnder30 founder, who started with gas cans, just raised $37 million for convenience store analytics

Currently 7,000 U.S. retailers use Skupos technology. With the new funding they’re hoping to grow that number to 40,000 stores in 50 states by the end of 2020, which should not be difficult if they continue to grow at their current rate of 15% per month. It doesn’t hurt that half the U.S. population visits convenience stores, largely gas stations, on a daily basis.

Skupos works by integrating with retailers’ POS systems—their cash registers—copying the transaction files back to Skupos technology and using machine learning to deliver results to both the retailers and brands, like Unilever, whose products are being purchased. Currently, they deliver insights on 6 million transactions per day.

“We have the beauty of 7,000 very active customers—the largest brands in the world—who are giving us constant product feedback. We’re operating in a very data-driven environment, and that’s what we develop around,” says Jake Bolling, the company’s 29-year-old CEO about the company’s growth. “At first it was a lot of us calling them. Now it’s a lot of inbound. [The brands] want to work with us,” says Bolling. “They want to understand what’s happening in the channel.”
