Search-and-rescue operations continue following an F/A-18 fighter jet crash reported in the vicinity of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar near San Diego, California.
The crash took place shortly before midnight local time on Thursday night, the base said in a statement on Friday morning. The jet was not with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing but was operating out of the base.The incident is under investigation as the search-and-rescue operations continue."We are aware of an accident involving an F/A 18 Hornet in the vicinity of MCAS Miramar at 11:54 P.M. PST," the statement said.
The Naval Air Systems Command characterized this aircraft as"the workhorse of Marine Corps tactical aviation."
