Scott Oliver, owner of Tapa, says he has been inundated with so many reservations and offers of help he's had to unplug the phone

The owner of a family-run restaurant who made a tearful plea for help after having no bookings says he's now been bombarded with so many requests he's had to unplug the phone. On August 30 Scott Oliver, who owns Tapa in Bollington, Cheshire, 'swallowed his pride' to admit his restaurant was set to be completely empty.

Despite admitting his post sounded 'desperate' he insists he'll do whatever it takes to keep his business afloat in tough times - even if he has to 'pull on heartstrings'.

"I even had to plead with our electricity supplier. Kicking, screaming and crying down the phone telling them we're going to have to close the business if the bills aren't reduced. I would never have posted anything like that before this year. It looks desperate. It's like a cry for help and makes it look like our business is failing and we're begging.

"After my post the phone was non-stop ringing and I had to take the batteries out. I couldn't even get to the settings to turn the volume down and it was disturbing me while I was on the phone. It was exciting and crazy. It was stressful as well but we got there in the end and served around 60 people and had to turn 30 away."

They opened their restaurant together 12 years ago but grew tired of fine dining in 2016 and transformed the menu to include only small plates. Scott's post, which has more than 50 likes, said: "Sad that I'm having to say this but tonight we have ZERO booked. Not one single person!
