Sam Winter's family has paid tribute to him after he died following an assault at a Tube station.
A man who died after being assaulted at Southwark Underground station has been described by his family as a "gentle, kind, quick-witted and funny" person whom they looked forward to seeing again in heaven.
Sam Winter, who was 28, was attacked at about 21:30 BST on Thursday 22 August. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but died on Saturday.In a tribute, his family said they were "devastated" by the loss of a "very much-loved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend"."He was a qualified physiotherapist, AI engineer and a volunteer with several charities.
“Our family will never be the same and we'll always miss him, but we take great comfort knowing he's now at home with his beloved Jesus and Father in heaven. We look forward to seeing him there." A 23-year-old man has been remanded in custody, charged with grievous bodily harm. Detectives are to apply to a court to amend the charge to reflect Mr Winter's death.
Det Insp Paul Atwell of the British Transport Police said: “This was a horrific and tragic incident which has resulted in a young man losing his life. Our specialist family liaison officers are providing support to Sam’s family. Please can I ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.
