Jonathan Frakes guest starred in Star Trek: Enterprise's hated finale, and he discusses the missteps made with the prequel series' ending.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Star Trek icon Jonathan Frakes candidly discusses his role in Star Trek: Enterprise's series finale, "These Are The Voyages." Enterprise, the fourth Star Trek spinoff series executive produced by Rick Berman, was canceled in 2005 after four low-rated seasons on the UPN Network.
In an interview with Variety conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Jonathan Frakes makes no bones about the mistakes made in Star Trek: Enterprise's series finale, and how fans have continually reacted to the episode since it aired 18 years ago. Read his quote below: “We didn’t quite fit. It was sold as, ‘Oh, come on and do the episode, it will be a Valentine to the fans’ — it wasn’t a Valentine to the fans. The fans didn’t want to see us. Scott Bakula was such a mensch about it, but all these other ‘Trek’ shows went seven seasons. Nobody wanted to be on a ‘Star Trek’ show that didn’t get to go to seven.
Enterprise Fans Hope The Characters Return In New Star Trek Shows Star Trek is now in a very different era, with multiple successful and very different series on Paramount+ ever since Star Trek: Discovery relaunched the TV franchise in 2017. Shows like Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Prodigy have been built around honoring legacy characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' 23rd-century setting makes it possible that characters like Scott Bakula's Captain Jonathan Archer, Jolene Blalock's T'Pol, and John Billingsley's Dr. Phlox could appear. Strange New Worlds' crossover episode homaged Enterprise, which was a long-awaited acknowledgment for the underrated Bakula-led prequel.
