Fatal semi crash shut down part of I-70 in east ColumbusA person has died following a crash on I-70 in east Columbus Sunday afternoon One person has died after a truck crashed in east Columbus, and parts of the highway in the area were temporarily shut down.
Columbus police said a semi crashed into the overpass on I-70 WB near mile marker 108 at 14:49 p.m. on Sunday, and that fluid spilled from the vehicle. The Semi lost control, drove over the wire barriers, crossed the grass median, went westbound in the eastbound lanes, came back across the median and struck the bridge embankment that supports the Woodcrest Road bridge," police said in a release.
One person was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition following the crash, and later died there.Police say that ODOT officials examined the bridge that the semi truck crashed into, and they found it to be in sound condition.
