Fauci says the U.S. is 'out of the pandemic phase' of COVID

Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical advisor and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told“We are certainly, right now, in this country, out of the pandemic phase,” Fauci said. “Namely, we don’t have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now. So, if you’re saying are we out of the pandemic phase in this country? We are.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 80 million Americans have been infected with COVID-19, with almost 989,000 deaths since 2020. More than 10,000 Americans are currently being hospitalized for the virus, while more than 257 million vaccinations have been reported.In an interview, Fauci said the U.S. may need intermittent vaccination going forward. However, pandemic “means a widespread, throughout the world, infection that spreads rapidly among people,” he said.
“So, if you’re saying, are we out of the pandemic phase in this country, we are,” Fauci said. “What we hope to do, I don’t believe — and I have spoken about this widely — we’re not going to eradicate this virus. If we can keep that level very low, and intermittently vaccinate people — and I don’t know how often that would have to be...”
