Arne Slot was only appointed as Liverpool manager in the summer, but according to an ex-Reds star, a return to Merseyside for Xabi Alonso by Christmas shouldn't be ruled out
Ex- Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has a theory that Xabi Alonso could replace Arne Slot as the club's manager by Christmas. The unlikely proposition would undoubtedly cause a stir considering the Reds had a rigorous recruitment plan for Slot, who they saw as the best fit to fill the void left by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Among the managerial candidates considered by owners Fenway Sports Group was Bayer Leverkusen manager Alonso, reports the Mirror .
Despite Alonso continuing with Leverkusen into the 2023/24 campaign, Hamann believes there's a possibility that he could still become Liverpool boss by Christmas if Slot struggles in the first few months of his reign. Speaking with TopOffshoreCasinos , the former Germany star said: 'Things happen very quickly in football. Maybe Liverpool end up needing a new manager at Christmas? Stranger things have happened.
