But the NEU has urged teachers to reject the latest offer “in the strongest possible terms”, saying in a livestream to members on Monday that it was “simply not good enough”. Announcing details of the new pay offer ahead of any information from the Government, NEU leaders said they would put the fresh proposal to members and encourage them to reject it.Mary BoustedShe argued that the pay offer was “significantly below” those offered to teachers in Wales and Scotland, and would do little to address the ongoing recruitment and retention crisis in the sector.
It comes after more than half of schools in England closed or restricted attendance during teachers’ strikes earlier this month, according to official Government data.
