Money for four projects in Regina, Lajord, sites near Eston and Assinaboia coming from the National Trade Corridor Fund.
Ottawa is providing $18.3 million from the National Trade Corridors Fund to four projects in Saskatchewan to improve railway efficiency in the landlocked province to ease some of the impacts of the pandemic on supply chains.
That next step will include permitting with the federal government, any permits needed with the province and ensuring the appropriate funding is in place before moving forward. The NTCF is expected to fund more than $4 billion in infrastructure projects like railways, airports and roads over the next 11 years, according to federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, who was in Regina on Thursday for the announcement.
“It will also support building two grain handling and storage facilities to allow for more capacity and ease bottlenecks at other grain collection points,” Alghabra said. “This means grain producers can get their product to Canadians and consumers around the world more easily.” “To keep our supply chains moving, to keep trade with our partners competitive and to relieve pressure that is causing inflation, we have to make sure our transportation infrastructure remains strong,” said Alghabra on Thursday in Regina at the Intermobil intermodal terminal near the bypass.
