He’s not wrong. The U.S.-and-India relationship is crucial for promoting stability and prosperity in the region. With China and Russia continually and unabashedly seeking to strengthen their own influence, it is more important than ever for the U.S. to have a strong partnership with India. The ambassador vacancy was undermining any U.S. effort to counter the influence of China and Russia in the region.
Of course, in addition to being a significant geopolitical asset, India is also a key strategic partner for the U.S. economically. With a rapidly growing population and a strategic geographic location at the crossroads of the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, India can help ensure freedom of navigation and, therefore, a level of financial stability.
The fact is that our countries are very much alike. The U.S. and India have shared interests in promoting economic growth, ensuring regional security and advancing global democratic values. With a population of over 1.3 billion people and a rapidly growing economy, India’s role in the long-term stability of the region is clear and significant. And while it is fair to say that the U.S.
