Around 100 firefighters are at the scene in Dalston Lane with videos on social media showing plumes of black smoke emanating from the roof of the four-storey building. The LFB said 15 fire engines were called to the block of flats at 5.21pm, warning those nearby on X, to “keep windows and doors shut due to smoke and avoid the area” while they worked to “extinguish the fire”.
Residents of the affected flats were evacuated with emergency services still unable to control the flames over an hour after the fire reportedly broke out. Please keep windows and doors shut due to smoke and avoid the area whilst we work to extinguish the fire.In a statement, the London Fire Brigade said: “A road closure is in place in Dalston Lane and people are urged to avoid the area whilst the incident is ongoing.“The Brigade was called at 1721. Crews from Homerton, Stoke Newington, Bethnal Green, Walthamstow and surrounding fire stations are at the scene. Crews are being supported at the scene by a 32 metre turntable ladder.
