After more than two days, firefighters are starting to contain the enormous Apple Fire burning in Southern California. The blaze has burned more than 20,500 acres in Riverside County, officials said. Thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate.

The northern and eastern edges of the fire are in steep, rugged hillsides not accessible to firefighting vehicles, officials said.
At least one home and two outbuildings in Cherry Valley were destroyed by the fire, officials said. No injuries have been reported.
