Weather conditions threaten to exacerbate wildfires raging in West Coast states, and a Red Flag Warning was issued in Oregon and Northern California, where President Trump is due to visit Monday
on record, and some locales braced for more wildfires as crews worked to create containment lines before fire-friendly weather returns. A Red Flag Warning, which indicates extreme fire conditions with gusty winds and low relative humidity, was in effect Monday in parts of Northern California and Oregon.
The National Weather Service warned the weather “will likely contribute to a significant spread of new and existing fires.” President Trump is scheduled to travel to McClellan Park, Calif., to speak with local and state officials about the wildfires that have scorched the state. The White House didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
Assistance from the federal government and out-of-state fire crews have bolstered firefighting efforts. The Federal Emergency Management Agency brought supplies to Oregon during the weekend. Fire crews and equipment from New Jersey flew to California to help suppress the blazes, according to the California Office of Emergency Services.
