The plans are part of a £125 million proposal to transform the area around the disused former dry docks into a residential area with 304 homes. Applicant Bishop Loch Developments is proposing to turn the historic industrial area into a ‘recreation and events space’ as part of the wider regeneration project led by New City Vision.
In January, permission was granted to re-open Dock One for the restoration of TS Queen Mary. The docks were built between 1869 and 1898 and played a crucial role in Glasgow’s maritime heritage. New City Vision and the Central Govan Action Plan Steering Group said it is anticipated 80 per cent of the site will eventually transfer to community ownership.
“The opening of the Govan-Partick Bridge earlier in the year was a landmark date and we’re already seeing more people visiting the area as a result. The re-development of the Graving Docks is an exciting opportunity to create a waterfront that Govan can be proud of after many years of neglect. A waterfront that can be enjoyed by local people and visitors to the area.”
