The humid weather looks set to come to a rather thundery end
Parts of the country are at risk of seeing flooding as the Met Office issue a yellow thunderstorm warning. It covers central parts of the country including the home counties as well as parts of Norfolk and Suffolk.
The warning is in force from 2pm tomorrow until 9pm that same evening when we are being told to expect thundery showers. It's possible some parts of the country could see up to 50mm of rain in just one hour. A Met Office spokesperson warned that "spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures." They also warned: "where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost. There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds." They added: "While most places will stay dry, a few places may see heavy, slow moving showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening. Where these develop, heavy downpours are possible with 30 to 50mm of rain possible in 1 to 2 hours or less. Large hail and lightning are likely additional hazards."
