A former coffee shop in the southside is set to be transformed into a play cafe offering a place for parents to go and enjoy a coffee while their children play. Coffee fans were saddened to learn the former Ovenhouse Coffee House and Brew Bar on Clarkston Road was closing but it appears it's set to be replaced by an exciting new project. Signage for the Seesaw Play Cafe has gone up at the venue across from Cathcart Train Station, with work going on inside.
Looking to provide a supportive community for parents and carers in Cathcart and beyond, the team behind it say it will offer a supportive and relaxed cafe environment, where parents and carers can come and have 'five minutes of breathing space' while their little one plays safely. Speaking about the new cafe which is due to open soon, they posted: 'Our cafe is a relaxed setting designed to inspire your child in creative, safe and educational play. Wherever you sit your child will always be in view to allow you to relax and enjoy your coffee and chat to friends. 'Our play area is split into two sections, our soft play area is designed for under twos providing your infant a safe space to explore and play whilst bigger kids can enjoy our cosy fireplace, books, crafts, wooden train sets, building blocks and more.' Offering 90 minute sessions, they say parents and carers will have plenty of time to enjoy a coffee and a cake whilst their wee ones 'play in a safe setting'. The cafe will be offering coffee supplied by Thomson’s Coffee and bakes sourced from within the local area. Older children (over two years old) are also welcome for an additional fee and will have toy boxes and colouring books supplied for them to enjoy
